A one-night only event will see the markets of Brixton Village shut down and transformed into a roller disco the likes of which London has never seen. Partnering up with Black Obsidian Sound System, the B.O.S.S Skate Jam invites roller skaters to hit the dancefloor and show off their moves. On August 8, from 7-11pm, expect move and tricks you’ll never see on any other dancefloor – right in the heart of Brixton’s Market Row.
What is the B.O.S.S. Skate Jam?
The B.O.S.S Skate Jam will see live DJs soundtracking an open and welcoming atmosphere for skaters and non-skaters alike. Anyone can join in the fun, regardless of if they’re plodding along on the dancefloor like a new-born giraffe, or skating circles around everyone else. It’s a celebration of the importance of the roller skating scene to Black and POC communities both in London and abroad, and an event prioritizing the lives and experiences of LGBTQ+ people within these communities. Celebrating these communities, music will be provided by some of London’s best DJs from the London Vogue and QBIPOC nightlife scene. Among those helming the decks will be Jay Jay Revlon of House of Revlon, DJ Kaspa, and Mark-Ashley Dupé.
Franco Manco will be slinging pies for attendees, alongside a pop up bar from Market Row rum. To keep the event accessible and supportive there will also be a welfare space on hand.
Not the most confident skater, but still want to participate? Fret not as stewards will be on hand from London roller skating club Roller Nation. They’ll be overseeing the action and supporting skaters of all levels. And you can still go if you don’t plan on skating, as non-skater tickets are available. You’ll have access to the bar and chill out areas, where you can vibe and enjoy the night and music.
So, what are you waiting for? Grab your skates, live out your John Hughes roller-disco dreams, and head on down to the B.O.S.S Skate Jam.
