Are you even a 90s gal if you didn’t swoon over Aaron-Taylor Johnson in Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging in 2008 (and for the next 10 years thereafter, let’s be honest)?
It’s the ultimate cringey romantic comedy: teenager with self-esteem issues falls in unrequited love with the popular kid, does a bunch of embarrassing things, but ultimately ends up with the dream boy who just so happens to be in a really cool band and writes a song about her. Naturally.
To celebrate a staggering 15 years since the film’s release (it’s like I’m only just now realising my age), the BFI Southbank are hosting a special anniversary screening over the bank holiday weekend. The event will feature a Q&A with director Gurinder Chadha, co-writer Paul Mayeda Berges and more guests that are yet to be announced.
There’ll be two panels discussing the likes of y2k nostalgia, teenage antics, and Louise Rennison’s frankly iconic book series, followed by the opportunity to ask your own questions about the film.
The screening and Q&A will take place at the BFI Southbank on Saturday, August 26 at 2:30pm. So, get the Ace Gang together and head to the BFI website for tickets.
