And we’d highly recommend you adding it to your day-trips-to-take-this-autumn list.
Recently voted one of the best places to live in the entire country, Amersham is a truly unique combination of old and new. With its plethora of historic buildings, the places oozes medieval charm, but also boasts a bustling new town with a whole host of independent shops and a thriving foodie scene.

Where is Amersham?
Located slap-bang in the middle of the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Amersham is surrounded by scenery so breathtaking; it’s pretty hard to believe that you’re less than an hour from the chaos of the capital city. The historic market town is nestled within the valley of the River Misbourne, and dates all the way back to 1086. It’s home to a 13th century church, a 15th century market hall, and has had a fair few claims to fame, having been seen on-screen in the likes of Four Weddings and a Funeral and Midsomer Murders. Not bad, hey?
Things to do in Amersham
Amersham is made up of two areas, Old Amersham and Amersham-on-the-Hill. The former home to a medieval (and ever so mooch-able) high street and over 160 listed buildings, including the Amersham Museum and the iconic Grade II* listed Market Hall building. Amersham-on-the-Hill is the old town’s slightly more modern (but equally as charming) younger sibling, boasting an array of boutique shops, cutesy cafes and a bustling street market.

As I’m sure you could have guessed based on its location, there are plenty of gorgeous walks and nature trails to embark on, ranging from relaxed ambles to high-intensity hikes. So it’s the perfect place for a crisp autumnal stroll, followed by a nice hearty meal this cosy season.
Getting to Amersham from London
Amersham is quite possibly the easiest day trip you can take from London. It’s roughly a 45 minute drive from the capital but is also accessible via our trusty London Underground. Amersham station is perched usefully on the end of the Metropolitan Line, so you can be whisked straight there with the simple tap of an Oyster Card. Quick and direct trains also run between Amersham station and London Marylebone. Easy peasy, right?
