The Alexandra Palace ice rink will reopen this Thursday.
We’ve lost Winter Wonderland and the New Year’s Eve fireworks this year, but Alexandra Palace is single-handedly making sure that we can still have the autumn and winter that we deserve. Nearly half a million people travel to Ally Pally every year to skate and on October 1, their iconic ice rink will reopen to the general public – it’s a 2020 miracle! You’ll also be able to take their ‘learn to skate’ classes if you want to become more Dancing On Ice and less Bambi on ice…
A number of safety measures have been implemented to keep the skaters and visitors safe, although the most notable change will be the reduced capacity. The venue will now permit five times less skaters on ice per session to ensure that social distancing can be maintained throughout. There will also be a one-way skating system and a limit of six people per group.

2020 actually marks the 30th year that the ice rink has been up and running, and it looks likely we’ll be able to celebrate the anniversary in person very soon. Their general skating sessions last for an hour and cost £9.00 for adults in the week and £9.50 on the weekends. Plus, if you work up an appetite during your session, you can head to the Ice Café for drinks, snacks or a hearty meal.
The rink will be open seven days a week, from 11am – 5:30pm on weekdays, and 11am – 6pm on weekends. Due to their guidelines, you must book your tickets in advance and you can do so here. Looks like 2020 has some redeeming qualities after all!
