Akon & Ne-Yo have been performing at huge venues on their ‘Nights Like This’ tour, and the bumper bill is landing in London this Friday (May 8).
But before that all gets going, you might have the chance to see one of the noughties chart mainstays at a far more intimate space. Akon will be playing a gig at Pop Brixton this Thursday (May 7), right on the eve of the first show of four shows at the O2 Arena.
Akon at Pop Brixton
The news was broken with DJ AG, so it’s likely this will take the format of a live-streamed event like the DJ has performed in the past. You may well have caught his videos showing off musicians performing with decks and microphones set up on the pavement in London, so we could expect to see a show in this style from Akon. He’s previously streamed sets with the likes of Skepta, Will Smith, and more.
On today’s Instagram post, it confirms the set will run from 6pm to 7pm on Thursday, May 7. There is no word on tickets on sale just yet, but watch this space and keep an eye on Pop Brixton’s page for any more details that emerge.
As mentioned, this show precedes four nights at London’s O2 for Akon, where he plays a co-headline run with Ne-Yo on May 8, 9, 10, & 14. These follow the pairs gigs across the UK & Ireland, with ‘Nights Like This’ concerts in Dublin, Newcastle, Glasgow, Leeds, Manchester, and Birmingham having already taken place.
Akon’s last London show came in 2024, when he took to the Hammersmith Apollo on ‘The Superfan Tour’.
DJ AG with Akon is due to take place on Thursday, May 7 from 6pm at Pop Brixton, 49 Brixton Station Road, SW9 8PQ (nearest station is Brixton).
