We’ve been working with South Western Railway to provide you a new, elevated office day routine each week. And this time we’re back with more suggestions of post-work activities to enjoy near Waterloo Station before you head for home. From cheap theatre shows to the best Aussie coffee shop in town, from luxury afternoon tea to cocktail hour – here’s how you can nail that work/life balance.
Things to do with your mates
We all love a post-work pint, but from time to time it can be nice to branch out from the local boozer and visit a fancier, pink-er place for cocktails. Consider, Tonight Josephine for instance. Named after the “nineteenth century fox” Joséphine De Beauharnais who married Napoleon and became the Empress of the French, this cocktail bar is an ode to hedonism, great cocktails and the aphorism that “Well behaved women don’t make history”. Happy hour is 5-7pm Monday to Thursday and 4-7pm on Friday. Cheers to that!

Undiscovered places to explore
One great thing about being back in the city is all the incredible food and drink on offer, from restaurants and cafés, to little-known food stalls along the river and pop-up bars. In fact, right outside the Royal Festival Hall you’ll find a shipping container-come-cafe, Beany Green, serving up great Aussie coffee, award-winning banana bread and espresso martinis to make your mouth water. If you’re looking for a tasty snack or post-work pick-me-up, this is the place for you. Plus, the whole container is a work of art, covered with Peter Blake’s pop motifs, making it the most colourful spot on the Southbank.

To help you keep your fingers firmly on the pulse of city living, South Western Railway’s winged friends, Sandy and Wes are on hand to provide their top recommendations. Sandy is a culture vulture with a love for the arts, theatre and lunching with the girls, while Wes loves clubs, pubs and going to gigs with his mates. But one thing they can both agree on is the importance of finding a good spot for a meal out with friends! They’ve joined forces to share their restaurant, café and bar suggestions for the week ahead, so you can spread your wings in style.
