Ao que parece, o V&A vai apresentar uma forma totalmente nova (e gigante) de exibir objectos históricos e culturais no seu novo armazém de East London, que tem agora uma data de abertura oficial: 31 de maio de 2025.
Mais de meio milhão de obras de todas as disciplinas criativas serão expostas no V&A East Storehouse, onde, num minuto, poderá estar a ver o arquivo do Festival de Glastonbury e artigos dos Sex Pistols, antes de ver frescos romanos e espadas de Samurai.
Armazém V&A Este
Tal como o seu nome, a disposição do espaço livre assemelha-se muito a um espaço de arrumação, mas não como um que já tenha visto antes. Em vez da desordem habitual, transmite uma sensação de caos perfeitamente organizado e sucinto. Existem quatro pisos num espaço aberto, que permitirá aos visitantes deslocarem-se de uma disciplina para a outra e verem as exposições com mini-curadoria planeadas. Ocupando o espaço de mais de 30 campos de basquetebol, é imediatamente uma visita obrigatória para contemplar um dos 250.000 objectos, 350.000 livros da biblioteca e quase 1.000 arquivos.
Uma das principais atracções que está a chegar ao V&A East Storehouse nos seus primeiros dias é o David Bowie Centre, que está preparado para receber os visitantes para um vislumbre dos itens do arquivo do Starman a partir de 13 de setembro. Mas quando acabar de olhar para o mundo de Ziggy, também poderá ver os fatos de PJ Harvey e Elton John; espadas de Samurai; camisolas de futebol vintage; frescos romanos; alta costura de Dior e Schiaparelli; mobiliário de meados do século; e muito mais.
Num sistema novo e inovador, o armazém do V&A dará a qualquer pessoa a possibilidade de utilizar o seu serviço Order An Object (Encomendar um objeto), que funciona sete dias por semana e que permitirá às pessoas reservar para ver qualquer objeto que desejem, em qualquer dia, o que significa que todos têm acesso ao espaço. É descrito como um espaço de armazenamento de trabalho que permite aos utilizadores aprofundar o significado por detrás da coleção de objectos e a forma como são tratados – tudo num espaço descontraído que organiza workshops criativos, eventos e actividades durante todo o ano.
Por ocasião da inauguração, o Presidente da Câmara de Londres, Sadiq Khan, afirmou “A abertura do V&A East Storehouse no próximo ano será uma excelente adição à paisagem cultural da nossa capital. A loja em funcionamento oferecerá aos londrinos e aos visitantes um acesso gratuito sem precedentes a uma grande variedade de obras criativas, desde artefactos romanos a arquivos de música dos tempos modernos. Trata-se de mais um momento extremamente significativo na criação da nossa potência de inovação, criatividade e aprendizagem em East Bank, à medida que construímos uma Londres melhor para todos”.
E isto é apenas o começo, com o armazém a ser o primeiro de dois novos locais do V&A East. O V&A East Museum deverá ser inaugurado na primavera de 2026, prometendo um espaço que trabalha com os jovens e está enraizado no património da zona.
