outubro é o Mês da História Negra e, embora a história negra deva ser defendida por mais do que apenas um mês, esta altura do ano dá-nos realmente a oportunidade de reconhecer, celebrar e aprender sobre o impacto que as pessoas e a cultura negras tiveram em Londres e em Inglaterra como um todo. O tema deste ano é“Reclaiming Narratives” (Recuperar Narrativas), que assinala uma mudança significativa no sentido de reconhecer e corrigir as narrativas da história e cultura negras, sublinhando a importância de assumir o controlo das suas histórias e honrar os seus heróis. Ao longo do mês, há uma série de actividades a decorrer em toda a cidade, pelo que há algo para todos se envolverem, se inspirarem e pensarem.

2. Visitar o Black Cultural Archives (4 de outubro)
Explore o único centro de património nacional do Reino Unido dedicado à recolha, preservação e celebração das histórias dos povos africanos e caribenhos na Grã-Bretanha. Os arquivos albergam uma coleção crescente de documentos originais, fotografias e artefactos que datam do século II até aos dias de hoje.
A partir de 4 de outubro, a sua exposição “Race Today: A História Negra é a História Britânica” será inaugurada. A exposição explora o legado dos jornais Race Today, com destaque para o período influente de 1973 a 1988, quando o Race Today Collective liderou a sua publicação.
A exposição “Race Today: História Negra é História Britânica” mostrará como a revista abordou questões transnacionais, servindo de plataforma crítica para conversas sobre conflitos britânicos e globais, ao mesmo tempo que alargava continuamente as fronteiras, descobrindo a dinâmica subjacente a estes movimentos.

Enquanto passeia pelas ruas conhecidas, ficará a saber como centenas de anos de influência africana e caribenha contribuíram para o modo de vida de Londres.
O seu guia fornecerá informações sobre arquitetura, sociedades secretas, combatentes da liberdade, escravatura e muito mais, enquanto passeia por Londres. Por exemplo, o Hackney Black History Walk, a 20 de outubro, centra-se na história dos 70 anos da chegada do SS Windrush das Caraíbas. Entretanto, a 6 de outubro, a Image of the Black (Imagem do Negro) na Tate Britain analisa o papel da presença negra na arte britânica e a forma como esta se relaciona com factores socioeconómicos e culturais. 15. Comemorar o aniversário de Fela Kuti no Jazz Cafe
Este evento homenageia a vida e o legado de Fela Kuti, o músico nigeriano pioneiro e criador do género afrobeat. Realizada em Camden, a celebração inclui uma atuação de Bukky Leo & Black Egypt. Bukky Leo é um antigo companheiro de banda de Fela Kuti e um dos mais importantes músicos de afrobeat da atualidade, liderando o conjunto. O evento promete mostrar a música icónica de Fela, incluindo êxitos como “Beasts of No Nation”, “Zombie” e “Water No Get Enemy”.
