7 Sunday Roasts In London That Are Better Than Your Mum’s

There is perhaps nothing that epitomises Britishness more than the humble Sunday roast… And a pint, of course.

Winter is here and, as the mornings get darker and we say goodbye to BBQs and salads of summer, we welcome the soul-warming roast back into our hearts (and stomachs). We’ve put together a round-up of seven top-notch London roasts to induce that classic Sunday food coma and leave you feeling full, warm and happy. Psst! For a limited time only Hop House 13 are offering you a free pint at all of these London boozers with the Fever app. There’s nothing better than a roast and a pint after all…

1. The Morgans Arms (Bow)

The Morgan’s Arms in Bow serves up a veritable feast to its lucky Sunday punters. The menu features all the classics – with an option of beef, chicken, or pork – plus a Vegetarian Wellington. They even offer a Detox Salad for those of you who might be feeling the effects of your Saturday night blow out a little too much to enjoy a full plate of gravy soaked potatoes.

43 Morgan Street, Bow, E3 5AA

2. The Wilmington Arms (Clerkenwell)

The Wilmington Arms keeps it simple when it comes to Sundays. No starters, no salads. Just the classic British comfort food, executed perfectly. Oh, and good news for you culture vultures, because if you’re going to see a show at Sadler’s Wells on the day you visit the Wilmington, you can present your ticket (both pre and post theatre) to receive 20% off your entire bill.

69 Rosebery Avenue, Clerkenwell, EC1R 4RL

3. The Vine (Kentish Town)

The Vine’s classic Sunday lunch offering comes with unlimited gravy, so you’ll never end up with that one last dry potato ever again. We recommend kicking off your day of indulgence with a Baked Camembert with apricot, pecans and toasted sourdough, before moving on to the main event. They even offer a vegetarian nut roast option with Marmite gravy.

86 Highgate Rd, Highgate, NW5 1PB

4. The Salthouse (St John’s Wood)

If you’re looking for a quality cut of meat then The Salthouse is your place. Their epic sharing Côte de boeuf is next level stuff, and their giant Yorkshire puds make your Mum’s muffin tin attempts seem rather feeble. Sorry Mum. We recommend washing it all down with one of their specially selected, hand-pulled pints.

63 Abbey Rd, St John’s Wood, NW8 0AE

5. The Bishop (East Dulwich)

The man in the picture might look grumpy, but that’s probably because he ordered fish and chips instead of a roast and the food FOMO has well and truly kicked in. We don’t blame him. The Bishop’s Sunday dinner is a sight to behold indeed. It’s all too easy to while away the hours in this particular pub, especially if you can’t quite face the thought of tubing back to your tiny flatshare with a belly full of food… Go on, order that dessert.

27 Lordship Lane, East Dulwich, SE22 8EW

6. The Durell Arms (Fulham)

This pub is the heart of its local community, and with a Sunday roast this good it’s not hard to see why. You know on Christmas Day when you get chipolata sausages wrapped in bacon and extra cheesy cauliflower cheese as an added roast dinner treat? Well, The Durell Arms in Fulham is offering you that option every Sunday. Order both as side dishes and leave knowing that you’ve made all the right decisions.

704 Fulham Road, Fulham, SW6 5SB

7. The Mitre (Holland Park)

The Mitre in Holland Park is all about seasonal food and that’s exactly why they’ve made the cut. All their meat is sourced from a family run butchers in North Yorkshire, and their huge Yorkshire puddings provide the perfect accompaniment. Oh, and if stuffing your face with smashed avo’ on toast is more your style, they also offer a cracking brunch menu on both Saturdays and Sundays.
