The prospect of pounding the pavements of the capital city for 26.2 miles on the trot has apparently never been more appealing, as a record-breaking number of hopeful runners chucked their metaphorical hats in the ring earlier this year, in the hope of securing a spot in the 2027 London Marathon.
The number of UK ballot-enterers catapulted past the one million mark for the very first time ever. And when combined with the international applicants, the total number of public ballot entries for the 2027 TCS London Marathon came to a rather staggering 1,338,554, marking a new world record.
Places were so wildly sought-after that the organisers decided to make the 2027 iteration of the London Marathon a double bill, confirming last month that the world’s largest marathon is getting even larger. Next year, the London Marathon will be spread across two days (Saturday, April 24 and Sunday, April 25) – allowing a whopping 100,000 participants to take part.
Each of the almost 1.4 million ballot-applicants was automatically entered into a random draw for both days. And the nail-biting wait is officially over. Today (July 9), entrants will finally find out if they will be one of the fortunate folk that gets to hotfoot it around the Big Smoke next April.
Results are being sent out by email to all applicants as we speak – and by the end of today, all applicants will know if they need to lace up their trainers and start preparing for the big day. TCS London Marathon organisers have urged ballot-entrants to keep an eye on their junk and spam folders for an email from no-reply@marketing.londonmarathonevents.co.uk. And anybody who hasn’t received their ballot result by 9am (BST) on July 10 should get in touch.
