When life gets tough, head to the beanbag.
Now this is comfort I could get used to. The world’s largest beanbag will arrive in London later this month, providing the beaniest and baggiest way to relax. In celebration of the upcoming London Fashion Week, designer Anya Hindmarch commandeered a whole lot of fabric and an unimaginable amount of beans, to create the ultimate in lazy luxury.
Mind you, Hindmarch has a knack for celebrating the capital’s fashion festival with fun installations. Back in February, she set giant love hearts loose over the city, as part of the other London Fashion Week. (It happens in both February and September – seasons change and so do outfits, dahling). Now, the so-called ‘Chubby Cloud’ will take up residence in Whitehall Palace’s stunning Banqueting House from September 14th-16th.
Whilst it’s undoubtedly comfy, it’s also a chance to learn. Joining you on the bean bag will be a series of experts, delivering talks on everything from fashion to tech, and sleep to mindfulness. Entering the realm of ‘dangerously relaxing’ are bedtime stories read by Poppy Delevingne and Claudia Winkleman, and lullabies performed by the London Gay Men’s Chorus. We defy you not to drift off by the end of those! For a more individual experience, they also run sessions where you’re free to kick back and meditate, or stare up at Banqueting House’s magnificent Rubens-decorated ceiling.
Best of all, proceeds from ticket sales will go towards the upkeep of London’s Historic Royal Palaces, so your relaxation has a charitable element. Truly, it’s hard not to be full of beans for this one…
Find the bean bag at Banqueting House at Whitehall, Westminster, SW1A 2ER. Nearest station is Charing Cross. Tickets start from £7.50 – book them and find the full event list here.
