19 Winter Pop-Ups That Will Jingle Your Bells In 2017

Brace yourselves, winter pop-ups are coming.

Whether it’s a rooftop, an ice cave, or even a magical world through the back of a wardrobe, we love a good winter pop-up. These days, London boasts some major outdoor attractions such as Winterville and Winter Wonderland, and you can find more of those in our Christmas markets guide. But carry on reading for our guide to the cosy bars and terraces that have transformed themselves for the holiday season. Read on to find your perfect winter outing…

1. Skylight, Wapping, now open

You’ll find yourself walking on the air with a visit to London’s highest and mightiest ice rink. Atop the Tobacco Dock in Wapping sits Skylight, the winter pop-up that offers fondue, wine, and the all-important rink, all within a cosy Alpine den. Knowing how good their summer event was, we’re sure this is one you aren’t going to want to miss. Happily, Fever have got some sweet deals for this one, so if you’re looking for the perfect date night, why not head along for some fabulous cocktails or an evening of skating and fondue?

Skylight is open on Thursday and Fridays from 5-11pm, and Saturdays and Sundays from 12-11pm. You’ll find it a few floors up at Tobacco Dock, Pennington Street Entrance, Wapping, E1W 2SF, and the nearest station is Shadwell.

2. Coppa Club‘s Riverside Igloos, Tower Bridge, now open

Photo: @elleeprior

Every year, these riverside igloos return and whip up Londoners into a frenzy – literally, people are falling over themselves to nab a spot. To be honest, it’s not hard to see why. Quite aside from the simply stunning views, they also come fully equipped with blankets, sofas, and speakers, so you can blast out the Christmas tunes whilst you wine and dine. Yes, Tower Bridge may be pretty already, but imagine how much better it could look from your personal igloo, drink in hand and Mariah Carey on the sound system… Only one way to find out!

You’ll find Coppa Club at 3 Three Quays Walk, Lower Thames St, EC3R 6AH, and the nearest station is Tower Hill. Find out more on their website

3. Jimmy’s Lodge, South Bank, now open

London is head over heels in love with igloos, so much so that we felt compelled to include another set of the wonderful orbs on this list. You’ll have Jimmy Garcia to thank for this lot, as he’s setting some up next to his Alpine lodge on the Southbank. With refreshments ranging from fondue to hot apple mojitos, there’s plenty for you to stuff your face with whilst you enjoy the view from your own personal igloo. The lodge itself is pretty sweet too, as is the comfort food – anyone for a wild boar hot dog?

Jimmy’s Lodge will appear on the Southbank from November 10th until December 31st, and you can book here. You’ll find them at Southbank Centre, Belvedere Road, SE1 8XX, and the nearest station is Waterloo.

4. Woody Bear, Marble Arch, now open

High above Oxford Street, a brand new entrant to the winter pop-ups game is setting up shop for 2017, and it looks like a real Christmas cracker. If you’re a fan of hot gin punch and melted cheese toasties – and who isn’t? – then you are going to bloody love Woody Bear. The whole shebang is themed around an abandoned fairground, so you’ll be able to mess around on see-saws, teacup rides, and swings as you take in some breathtaking views of the London skyline.

You’ll find Woody Bear behind a secret entrance on the corner of Marble Arch and Park Lane, at 535 Oxford Street. Nearest station is Marble Arch. Keep an eye on their website for further updates and announcements.

5. Social Fun & Games Club, Stratford, now open

Head back to the 80s with a neon-drenched winter wonderland miles above Stratford. OK, so miles may be an exaggeration, but the place is certainly something to marvel at. Especially since curling maestros Sliders are back again with a curling rink to make you fall head over heels – or just fall over. Add that to deliciously warming foods, and a totally ultra 80s playlist, and this one should definitely be on your 2017 Christmas bucket list.

Social Fun & Games Club are setting up at Roof East, 45a Broadway, Stratford, E15 1XD, and the nearest station is Stratford.

6. Winterland, Fulham, now open

Jimmy’s Lodge are really getting around this year, because they’re also setting up shop in Fulham. Not that we’re complaining, of course – it just means more raclette-drenched burgers and lodge-y goodness for everyone! This pop-up is also featuring curling lanes and alpine mini-golf, so you can best your buddies at sports should the mood take you. Or there’s beer and prosecco pong if you fancied something a little more boozy. The cherry on the top of this sundae is an enchanted woodland, right on the banks of the Thames.

Winterland will be on Wandsworth Bridge Road, Fulham, SW6 2TY, and the nearest station is Putney Bridge. They’ll be open from November 9th, Thursday to Sunday.

7. The Montague Ski Lodge, Bloomsbury, from Nov 16

One of London’s top hotels is also making a triumphant return to the winter pop-ups scene this year. The Montague on the Gardens are reopening their ultra-festive, super-seasonal Montague Ski Lodge, and it looks stunning. This is apres-skiing taken to the next level, with rivers of mulled wine, and enough blankets to cover Mont Blanc. All in the centre of Bloomsbury, no less, just in case you weren’t feeling fancy enough already.

You’ll find this ski lodge at The Montague on the Gardens, 15 Montague Street, Bloomsbury, WC1B 5BJ. Nearest station is Russell Square.

8. The Churchill Bar Terrace, Marylebone, now open

Need an escape from Alpine lodges? This might be the best of the winter pop-ups for you then, particularly if you’re also a history buff. The Churchill Hyatt Regency are transforming their alfresco terrace into a winter wonderland that will step back into the past of both London and Sir Winston Churchill. Classic London memorabilia will sit alongside their life-size statue of Churchill, and they’ll also be serving some delicious cocktails inspired by various moments from the former PM’s life. For England!

The Churchill Bar can be found at The Churchill Hyatt Regency, 30 Portman Square, Marylebone, W1H 7BH. Nearest station is Marble Arch.

9. Backyard Cinema’s Snow Kingdom, Borough, now open

Oh, it’s a snow kingdom alright. Filled with comfy cosy beanbag chairs, no less! You’ll have to enter through a secret ice cave and cross a frozen lake first, but trust us when we say it’s definitely worth the journey. Tickets are selling rapidly, but there are still some available for classics like Cool Runnings, Home Alone, and The Princess Bride, as well as newer releases like Beauty and the Beast. Perfect for a festive date! 😉

Find the Snow Kingdom off the Mercato Metropolitano food market near Borough station, 42 Newington Causeway, SE1 6DR.

10. South Pole Saloon, Brixton, from November 23

Christmas meets debauchery down in South London, as Brixton Rooftop is being transformed into a proper dive bar. South Pole Saloon is just like the wild wild west, but with elves instead of cowboys (that gives us a great idea for a film…). Cocktail masters ABQ will be demonstrating some molecular cocktail magic, whilst Mac to the Future will serve their famous mac & cheese inside an entire Camembert. What are you waiting for? Giddy up y’all!

South Pole Saloon launches on November 23rd, and will be open on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays until January 1st 2018. You’ll find it at Brixton Rooftop on Pope’s Road, Sw9 8JH, and the nearest station is Brixton.

11. Cinema in the Snow, Hackney, from December 8

It’s amazing what you can find in the back of your wardrobe. All we found were hideously out of fashion clothes, but Pop Up Screens dug around and found an entire cinema in theirs! And not just any cinema either, for it sits in the middle of an enchanted forest. How do we know it’s enchanted? Well they’re playing Elf eight times – definitely counts as enchanting in our book!

You’ll find Cinema in the Snow at Hackney Downs Studios, Amhurst Terrace, E8 2BT, and the nearest station is Rectory Road. Tickets are on sale now with Fever, and you can book them here.

12. Winter La La Land @ Last Days of Shoreditch, from November 23

Shoreditch loves Christmas as much as anywhere, and it’s getting in the mood with the opening of Winter La La Land. Essentially, this is a giant tent which will be overflowing with amazing food, banging tunes, and some Hemingway-themed cocktails. Entry is free as well, so it’s well worth heading on over, particularly since bottomless brunches and winter pop-ups are a match made in heaven.

13. The White Forest at Madison, St. Paul’s, now open

Of all the winter pop-ups, this one may just have the greatest views. The White Forest at Madison will be divine for many reasons, but the best reason to head over is for the stunning views of St Paul’s Cathedral. Although the spiced hot buttered rum does make a strong case to be number one… They’ve promised an overhead canopy of fairy lights and faux fur blankets, so you’ll be warm and toasty this winter!

The White Forest will be in residence from November 6th – February 28th 2018, at Madison London, 1 New Change, St Paul’s, EC4M 9AF. Opening hours are from 4pm until late daily, and the nearest station is St Paul’s.

14. Mac & Wild’s Hunting Lodges, Liverpool Street, now open

These cabins, styled after Scottish hunting lodges and set up by Botanist Gin, are a fine spot for a Christmas catch-up with a group of friends in the very heart of the City. Sure, these huts are heated, but warm yourself from the inside too with hearty Highland fare like venison hot pot, haggis and whisky sticky toffee pudding. A speaker system that lets you soundtrack your own party completes the ambience.

Each hut seats ten, with no hire charge, but there is a minimum spend. Find the lodges at 9A Devonshire Square, London EC2M 4YN. Open now, through winter, except Sundays.

15. Dalloway Terrace, Bloomsbury, now open

@jcrads

The Bloomsbury Hotel’s very own Instagram magnet. A floral delight in the summer, for winter the Dalloway Terrace is festooned in seasonal decorations, with fur throws on the seats to keep you warm. Open Dec 4 – 10, evenings only. St Katharine’s Docks are a short walk from Tower Bridge on the north bank of the river.
