Jazz is the sound of the soul unchained and each rhythm is a conversation between the musicians, unpredictable yet familiar. In honour of the centuries-old genre and its cultural legacy, We call it Jazz in London is recreating popular songs like Louis Armstrong’s “On the Sunny Side of the Street” and “Georgia on my Mind” by Preservation Hall Jazz Band, followed by a spirited instrumental improvisation.
Head to Glazier’s Hall to catch gorgeous performances of more beloved ragtime, brass, and blues songs and you’ll be transported to the streets of New Orleans where it all started. There is limited availability so secure your spot now before tickets sell out.
What is “We call it Jazz”?
We call it Jazz is a 60-minute show that blends a setlist of well-known jazz and swing tunes, such as “Ain’t Misbehavin” and “Cantaloupe Island” with improvised solos, played by a top-tier local jazz band. It offers a piece of jazz legacy, taking you on a musical journey to the good old days of the smoky bars and New Orleans parades. What’s more, you can also enjoy a drink at the venue while listening to the soulful piano notes and the smooth saxophone.
Jazz, its story and the show
Born in the vibrant streets of New Orleans in the early 20th century, the genre took its form as a combination of African rhythms and music, ragtime and blues. Although New Orleans is considered the capital of jazz, other big cities in the States, such as New York, Chicago and Kansas City also share a long history of fiery jazz fun.
The genre’s impact on pop culture is also quite significant, inspiring musicals and films like Chicago and All That Jazz, as well as reshaping fashion and even language for over a century. So what better way to celebrate the music genre that broke social barriers and inspired countless artists than with an authentic jazz show right here in London? The show starts with a little taste of jazz classics, including “When the Saints Go Marching In”, followed by other beloved hits in harmony with jazz’s essence.
Let the music take you on a moving journey this season at We call it Jazz in London. The show invites every music lover and jazz aficionado to come together for an evening of authentic jazz, where chaos dances with harmony and every set is a unique masterpiece.
Taking place at the historic Glazier’s Hall, there will be two back-to-back performances scheduled for 19:00 and 21:00. This gives you plenty of time to grab a pre-show drink or a quick bite after the performance.
