OPEN GARDEN SQUARESS

Open Garden Squares gets you into the capital’s beautiful (and hidden) gardens.

Face it, the English summer would be nothing without an array of fabulous gardens. Where else would one hold elegant garden parties, or simply laze around in a hammock with a book? Alright, so those are pipe dreams for most of us – but some gorgeously green gardens are opening up to the public this weekend for Open Garden Squares Weekend, and it’s a great chance to have a nose around.

Over 200 of the capital’s most secretive gardens are opening up their gilded gates, starting with the most closely guarded garden in England: 10 Downing Street. This garden has welcomed every single British Prime Minister in history, so you’ll be in rare company… if you signed up for the ballot in time. That’s the only way to get in without being arrested, so good luck if you entered!

Easier to get into are the likes of Crossrail Place Roof Garden, which is handily located next a Street Feast outpost. History is on your side in the Inner Temple Garden, which has existed in one form or another since the 12th century. If brutalist architecture’s your bag, the Barbican Wildlife Garden will make a peaceful chillout spot. Finally, the Nomura International PLC rooftop garden will fulfil your views quotient, as it offers stunning panoramas of The Shard.

However, this has put him dangerously close to Infernos... You'll find him eating all of London's street food, lost in a bookshop, or shouting at his beloved ice hockey team, the Minnesota Wild.
