Everything from Fiskbo to Hemnes is coming to central London’s new Ikea.
The pride of Sweden is set to arrive in central London later this year, as Ikea have announced plans to open a store on Tottenham Court Road. Now, this is Big News for two reasons. First of all, this is the first city-centre branch in London. And second, who could possibly fail to love Ikea?
Seriously, who amongst us doesn’t have a Swedish picture frame or colourful plate set kicking around our flat? From autumn, you’ll be able to grab them from Tottenham Court Road, although this store won’t be like the superstores on the outer edges of London. This Ikea will focus mainly on kitchenware and wardrobes, so the hunt for a Billy bookcase will still take you to Croydon, Edmonton, or Neasden (where you can also check out this incredible temple on the same trip).
Still, it’s a welcome addition to the (admittedly pretty niche) central London homeware scene. It’ll also tide us over until this super-swish new store opens out in Greenwich, one which will reportedly feature a pavilion and a biodiverse roof garden. Välkommen till London!
