Lovers of the bizarre and brilliant work of Tim Burton: this one’s for you. A huge exhibition dedicated to one of the most celebrated filmmakers in the world has just landed in London. ‘The World of Tim Burton‘ is currently on a decade-long, worldwide tour and is now finishing up the tour at London’s Design Museum.
The World Of Tim Burton
Whether you’re a die-hard fan or just a little bit curious, the exhibition takes visitors on a deep dive into the artistic creations of Burton. The exhibition draws from his personal archives across works such as Beetlejuice, The Corpse Bride, Wednesday, and Edward Scissorhands. Visitors can delve into the gothic, fantasy worlds he’s created over the course of his career.
Jenny He curated the exhibition in collaboration with Tim Burton, and it has been specially adapted for the Design Museum by Maria McLintock. As well as exploring his iconic film work, visitors will have the chance to discover some of his lesser-known creations. While you might associate him purely with his cinematic oeuvre – perhaps it was love at first Beetlejuice [1987] or maybe you fell for him on Frankenweenie [2012] – there is plenty more to uncover about his talents as an illustrator, painter, photographer and author.
Since it all comes from Tim Burton’s personal archive, visitors can gain an insight into the mind-bending creative process. From sketchbooks and storyboards to paintings and photography work; it’s a unique opportunity to get an up-close-and-personal peek into Burton’s perfectly peculiar imagination.
This run in London marks the final stop of the exhibition’s world tour, which has been running for a decade and will be the only chance to see it in the UK. Handily, it comes hot on the heels of the release of the Beetlejuice sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, which recently hit screens. Michael Keaton returned as the eponymous character, alongside Winona Ryder reprising her role. Jenna Ortega, star of the hit Netflix series Wednesday, also joined the cast for the movie.
The World of Tim Burton will run at the Design Museum from October 25, 2024 – April 21, 2025. Adult tickets start at £19.69, with children’s spots costing £9.85 and concessions/students going for £14.77. Book your spot here!
