Maybe you slept through Carnival, maybe you were holidaying, or perhaps you purposefully avoided it because the very thought of West London on the August bank holiday weekend made your skin crawl. Either way, if you quite fancy a carnival but Notting Hill just didn’t happen for whatever reason, Hackney has the answer for you. Of course, it could be that you did go to Notting Hill and you’re just an absolute carnival fiend who loves an excuse to dress ridiculously and get drunk during the day.
You could describe Hackney One Carnival as Notting Hill’s Eastern little sister. There’s all the noise, colour, glitter, extravagant outfits, steel drums and excellent food… just with less of a hype and not as much disruption. There will be live performances from the best young musicians in the area and delicious food from all over the world. It promises to be a magnificent day full of flamboyancy and fun.
The procession starts at 2pm on September 11. It will begin on Ridley Road and end at Cecilia Road in Dalston.
