After what looked like a pretty wrapped-up ending to Ted Lasso season three, it is now being reported that the show could, in fact, be returning for a fourth season after all!
According to Deadline, who reported the news, Warner Bros. Television has picked up the contracts of three key, original cast members of the show: Hannah Wadingham, who plays Rebecca Walton (the owner of fictional club AFC Richmond), Brett Goldstein, who plays club captain then manager Roy Kent, and Jeremy Swift, who plays Leslie Higgins, the Director of Football at the club.
Now, of course, the one big name that hasn’t been mentioned yet is Jason Sudeikis, who plays the title character in the show and earlier in the month, his co-creator told Collider that a fourth season would hinge on his decision. Deadline has since posited the theory that the fact that the process of casting looks to have begun is an indication that Sudeikis is on board for the new season – though it has been suggested that he may not appear on screen as heavily this time around. Following the Deadline report, Variety wrote that it was believed that Sudeikis would be involved as an executive producer.
After picking up the contracts of the three original characters, it is now expected that the studio will reach out to further cast members with expired contracts for a return to the show. According to Deadline, there is an eye towards early 2025 for the beginning of production, show this go ahead.
Ted Lasso follows the story of the fictional London football club London FC, and officially began on Apple TV in 2020. The character of Ted Lasso was, however, first born all the way back in 2013 in an ad campaign for NBC Sports.
A fourth season hasn’t been officially conformed by Apple TV, but the signs are there to point to another installment of the hit show. Watch this space for further updates on any Ted Lasso new season news.
