Cucumbers are the new way to pay for your booze, apparently.
? SHAMELESS PR STUNT ALERT ? We really need some sort of specialised emoji for this sort of thing, but that’ll have to do for now. Another company is lining up some free exposure by staging an utterly ludicrous PR stunt, for one day only. This time, it’s the turn of Hendrick’s Gin to give away ginstastic goodies, and to be fair, they have been quite original. If you turn up at the pub on Tuesday 20th March armed with a cucumber, and present it to the bar staff, they will furnish you with a gin & tonic, free of charge. Well, free apart from the cucumber, I guess.
They’re calling it ‘Cucumber Currency’, but I don’t see it catching on. What happens to the cucumber if you need change? Anyway, the (slightly tenuous) connection is that Hendrick’s Gin use cucumber as a garnish, so this was an obvious next step. The rules are, you can only get one G&T per person, and it has to be at a pub operated by Young’s or Geronimo Inns. Here’s the full list of participating pubs, and remember that this is a one-day offer, good for Tuesday only. If you try to pay with a cucumber on Wednesday, you aren’t a savvy Secret London reader, you’re just a wally.
What with Virgin Rail’s Avocard stunt last week, we seem to be living in a time of veg-related PR stunts. At least it puts us closer to our five-a-day…
