Plans are in order for the capital to get its very own indoor tropical paradise…and we can’t believe our eyes. While it’s only just starting to get really nippy, there is no way on earth we are going to start turning our noses up at the prospect of having an immersive tropical paradise at a secret London location that will be built like a Hollywood film set and have jungle landscaping, rock walls, hot tubs, a 40-foot waterfall and a swimming lagoon. Yep, you read that right. AHHHHHH! Goodbye winter blues…GOODBYE!
Sound pretty sweet but still feel like there’s something we all miss by living in the big smoke? (aside from the sun and clean air)…? The stars did you say? Funny that. Because the the ceiling will be animated – video mapped in high definition to be precise – taking you from sunny afternoon to starlit night, with a 1.5 million lumen light projection system. 1.5 million!
By day (9am-5.30pm) the centre will have more of a family focus, with activities suitable for all ages, and by night (6pm-3am) it’s a massive pool party with shows and DJs. And put your party snobbery hat away – mastermind Deborah Armstrong (and the founder of Glastonbury’s Shangri-La – that mental party hub filled with vast interactive installations) is the brains behind this, so we know it’s going to be good. The location of Summerland has not yet been revealed, although Armstrong has said it will be in an area with excellent transport links – three Tube stations within ten minute walking distance.
All seem a bit too good to be true? It may well be…organisers still need to raise £850,000 in total to make this happen. If it goes ahead, however, the project is expected to take around eight months to complete. So fingers crossed for spending next dull and miserable winter in an interactive tropical paradise in the middle of London!
