Now I really don’t want to jinx it, but it really does seem as though summer has well and truly arrived in London. Following last week’s heatwave, we’re now enjoying balmy mid-20s temperatures, with another heatwave on the way. And to suit us sun-seeking city-folk, an east London lido is also waking up from its off-season slumber, ready to provide the perfect summery spot in the heart of the capital.
Summer Splash is the name, and providing a safe al-fresco water space for the local community is the game. This new addition to London’s roster of lidos comes courtesy of the Royal Docks and their summer programme, At The Docks. And unlike most of London’s other outdoor pools, Summer Splash will be entirely free to visit.
It won’t be around for long, though! The unheated pool will only be open for a matter of weeks, opening its doors on July 25 and promptly closing them shortly thereafter on August 17.

Alongside the pool, there will be sandpits to play in, deckchairs to lounge in, a sauna to – well… sweat in, and a vibrant schedule of evening events to enjoy. The wider At The Docks programme will also offer Londoners the chance to try their hand at wakeboarding, paddleboarding, and open water swimming.
The dreamy Dock-side lido will offer a pretty unique backdrop, with sweeping city views to gawp at as you swim. Manned by lifeguards and complete with a shallow end, Summer Splash is set to be a pretty perfect place to spend a summer’s day with the entire family.

Summer Splash will return to the Royal Docks from July 25 until August 17. Find out more here.
