Smithfield Market is throwing a big ‘ol birthday bash.
150 years, and still looking fresh – Smithfield Market is doing pretty well for its age. I’ve heard that 150 is the new 30, so it’s definitely an excuse for a jolly old knees-up. To celebrate their sesquicentennial, the market is hosting a birthday extravaganza over the August bank holiday weekend, and like all the best things in life, it’s free to visit.
For this August weekend, Smithfield Market will play host to a family-friendly carnival around the streets of Farringdon, with the famous Victorian market forming the centrepiece. You’ll find a whole range of festivities across two stages and six festival zones – Personally, my eyes are immediately drawn to the roller disco, but that’s because I’m a massive child.
Other diverse attractions include the Fulham Brass Band, hula hooping from The Majorettes, poetry readings, performances of Horrible Histories, and live music acts. They’re billing it as the biggest birthday in London, which is a bold claim. Head along on August 25th & 26th to see if they live up to the boast!
