Regent Street has the oldest festive light party in town, and it’s back for another Christmas – ahead of this Sunday’s Toy Parade.
Some things in life are inevitable: death, taxes, and Regent Street putting up a cracking Christmas lights display. Not surprising, really – they’ve been doing this since 1954, so you’d expect them to be pretty good by now! Regent Street actually started the whole tradition of Christmas lights in the capital, so please direct your love/hate their way. With a winning formula in their back pocket, they’ve decided to raise the game a little in 2017. Expect a couple of new twists when they light up on Thursday!
Not content with having the biggest display in central London, this year’s ‘Spirit of Christmas’ show is set to be even grander. Yes, Piccadilly is extending the display even further, building on the angelic design unveiled last year with new colours and extra touches.
To create the regally festive atmosphere, the entirety of Regent Street will be pedestrianised for the evening, and there are some tuneful musical performances planned. Chart-topping Clean Bandit and the darling of east London Paloma Faith are the big names, whilst your mother’s favourites Alfie Boe and Michael Ball will also join in the fun.
The party will last from 4pm until 9pm, and the plunger will be pushed at 5:30pm, illuminating 300,000 LED lights. But the fun won’t stop then, as some of world-class shops will offer in-store surprises and seasonal treats. Looks like you’ll have to get yourself down there on Thursday November 16th to find out what they’ll be.
Alternatively, head down there on Sunday for the famous Hamleys Toy Parade.
Helpfully, we’ve rounded up all the major Christmas light displays in London this year. Just in case that isn’t enough festive fun, how about guides to London’s ice rinks, Christmas markets, and winter pop-ups too? You’re welcome!
