Desde a sua inauguração em 2022, a Linha Elizabeth mudou completamente a forma como nos deslocamos na cidade, transportando mais de 700.000 passageiros em qualquer dia da semana. E agora, a nossa querida Linha Lizzy está a receber alguns elogios bem merecidos que vão para além do seu estatuto de maravilha logística da TfL, tendo sido recentemente coroada vencedora do prestigiado Prémio RIBA Stirling para arquitetura.
Este prémio de renome é atribuído pelo Instituto Real dos Arquitectos Britânicos (RIBA) e celebra a melhor arquitetura nova do Reino Unido. O coletivo de arquitectos que concebeu a Elizabeth Line – Grimshaw, Maynard, Equation e AtkinsRéalis – foi reconhecido por vários elementos arquitectónicos únicos encontrados ao longo do grande projeto de escavação.
Uma obra-prima moderna debaixo de Londres
Baptizada em honra da Rainha Isabel II, a Linha Isabel vai de Reading e Heathrow a Essex e ao sudeste de Londres, estendendo-se por 62 milhas de via e 26 milhas de túneis. Esta infraestrutura extremamente complexa é mascarada por uma simplicidade elegante, com cada estação a parecer uma obra de arte.
Desde as abóbadas espaçosas e cheias de luz de Tottenham Court Road para uma saída nocturna no Soho, até às linhas curvas e ao design elegante de Canary Wharf, é o exemplo perfeito daqueles raros momentos em que o design urbano ultrapassa a funcionalidade e se torna algo verdadeiramente inspirador.
Em comparação com grande parte da antiga rede, a Elizabeth Line proporciona um ambiente calmo e tranquilo, com incríveis peculiaridades. Os seus tons suaves e a sua iluminação sensível promovem uma experiência de viagem intuitiva e sem atritos, com linhas curvas e fluidas que permitem aos londrinos percorrer os impressionantes túneis e estações da rede com uma confiança acrescida.
A Linha Elizabeth é também famosa pelo seu design inclusivo e acessível, com acesso sem degraus desde a rua até à plataforma em todas as 41 estações e considerações sensíveis com caraterísticas arquitectónicas bem pensadas. Estas incluem tapetes acústicos por detrás do revestimento para absorver o excesso de ruído, a remoção de acessórios desnecessários e a utilização de uma paleta de cores contida para que seja amiga dos sentidos.
Falando em nome do júri do Prémio RIBA Stirling, Muyiwa Oki, Presidente do RIBA e Presidente do Júri, disse: “A Linha Elizabeth é um triunfo da colaboração entre arquitectos, oferecendo uma solução perfeita, eficiente e maravilhosamente coreografada para o transporte no centro da cidade”.
“É uma tela organizada que incorpora um conjunto elegante de componentes arquitectónicos para criar uma identidade consistente em toda a linha – através da qual milhares de passageiros diários navegam com facilidade”.
O legado da Linha Elizabeth
A Linha Elizabeth é o resultado de uma colaboração notável entre arquitectos, engenheiros e designers. Com o Prémio RIBA Stirling no seu currículo, esta adorada linha ferroviária elevou oficialmente a fasquia do design de transportes e da arquitetura urbana.
Já não se trata apenas de ir do ponto A ao ponto B – trata-se de criar espaços que tornem a viagem tão agradável como o destino.
