The best new Netflix UK series, films and documentaries to binge in March 2018, courtesy of Secret London.
It’s basically winter until the clocks go forward, so grab an extra duvet and fire up that laptop! Here’s what’s new to Netflix UK…
Annihilation (March 12)
The world has been waiting for an all-female sci-fi/horror adventure, and finally it has one. Natalie Portman, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Tessa Thompson lead this tense journey into an environmental disaster zone where the laws of nature don’t seem to apply. It’s jumpy, thought-provoking, and smashes the Bechdel test in the process.
Jessica Jones, Season 2 (March 8)
A second season of hard-boiled Marvel fare sees the ex-superhero testing the limits of her powers, and tracking down a vicious killer. Krysten Ritter is as deadly with a barb as she is with her fists, making this neo-noir romp through NYC’s seedy Hell’s Kitchen one to watch.
A Series of Unfortunate Events, Season 2 (March 30)
Lemony Snicket’s miserably maverick tale of woe continues, as the Baudelaire orphans continue to bounce between a plethora of wacky relatives that make your family reunions look like a tame affair. A whole helping of misery and murder, served with a extra slice of ridiculous costumes and outlandish accents from the ever-delightful Neil Patrick Harris.
The Outsider (March 9)
What’s an American soldier left in Japan after World War II to do? Join the yakuza, naturally. Led by Jared Leto, The Outsider is a dive into the murky underworld of post-war Tokyo, where tradition and honour are king.
Santa Clarita Diet, Season 2 (March 23)
Cannibalism has never been quite so funny. 2017’s campy cult hit returns for a second season, promising a gutful of family drama and the occasional gruesome murder. Feast on star turns from Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant – if you’ve got the stomach for it, of course.
Marvel Madness (all month)
Not one, not two, but three huge Marvel films are arriving on Netflix this March. Guardians of the Galaxy rocks up on March 20th, whilst March 30th sees a double-dose of Captain America. The all-American Avenger returns in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, immediately followed by the all-star sequel, Captain America: Civil War. Double feature, anyone?
The best of the rest
Relationship bliss gets complicated in season 3 of Love (March 9), whilst the brilliant, but aggravatingly wordy My Next Guest Needs No Introduction With David Letterman welcomes Malala Yousafzai for a thought-provoking interview (March 9). Meanwhile, weekly episodes of Riverdale, Black Lightning, and The Joel McHale Show With Joel McHale will help break up the binges.
Film fans can anticipate the arrival of recent releases and all-time classics. The likes of Misery (March 1), Carrie (March 1), and Labyrinth (March 31) are definitely due a nostalgic rewatch, whilst modern films such as Whiplash (March 31), Nightcrawler (March 30), and Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (March 31) will do nicely for those who missed them in cinemas.
