Pucker up and get your selfie cams at the ready…Covent Garden’s traditional Christmas baubles have been replaced by over 40 large stems of mistletoe, and the results are making sparks fly! Created by production designer Michael Howells and rigged by Blackout, the decorations illuminate Covent Garden’s Market Building with 40 mistletoe chandeliers.
[ITV] Ranging in size from 2.5 to 3.5 metres, the mistletoe have been adorned with almost 700 glistening berries which transform each sprig of mistletoe, resulting in a truly stunning installation. More than 320 metres of garlands unite the chandeliers, and around 100,000 pealights have been suspended within the historic building. Let’s hope they’re not full of Nargles ey!
[A1 Retail]Beverley Churchill, creative director at Covent Garden, said: “Covent Garden is famous for theatre, performance and bringing people together; and never more so than at Christmas time. We hope the 15 million people who visit the district over Christmas enjoy the new scheme as much as we do, and maybe even find someone to kiss under the mistletoe.”
We’d recommend bringing some chapstick – it looks like there will be a lot of kissing happening here! (We know where we will be spending the entirety of the our weekends in the run up to Christmas…?)
The Mistletoe can be seen in Covent Garden until January 2016.
