Forget everything you know about theatre, because dotdotdot is kicking things up a notch with their debut show, SOMNAI.
Following in the footsteps of immersive theatre veterans like You Me Bum Bum Train, Secret Cinema and Punchdrunk, dotdotdot hopes to amp up the excitement of their breakthrough production with a high-tech twist.
Have you ever felt unsatisfied in life? Ever dreamt of being more successful? Or more wealthy? Welcome to the world of lucid dreaming. A space where you’ll be able to access your subconscious mind and control it while you SLEEP™. SOMNAI is here to ensure that you’ll never have to settle for less.
Confused? OK, it’s fair to say that dotdotdot has been pretty hazy on the details of their debut show. Cloaked in a shroud of mystery, the capital’s newest immersive entertainment experience will be popping up from 1st March – 6th May in an old Clerkenwell printing plant. Enter a world of possibility, as you embark on an ambiguous ‘lucid dreaming’ experience that sounds a lot like something out of ‘Black Mirror’.
Just take a look at their suitably secretive teaser trailer for a few more cryptic clues about the sinister premise of SOMNAI…
They’ve assembled a crack team of industry experts to create an experience that’s both tech-heavy and theatrical.
While we might not be able to prepare you for exactly what’s to come, we do know that anyone lucky enough to nab themselves a ticket will find themselves embroiled in an immersive, multi-sensory experience unlike any other… And when they say immersive, they really mean it.
It’s clear this is not an experience for the faint hearted, with their website’s ‘Terms of Entry’ section covering a long list of warnings. Individuals with claustrophobia, taphephobia (that’s fear of graves), thanatophobia (fear of death) or acrophobia (fear of heights) definitely shouldn’t be booking a ticket for this show. They’re also operating a strict ‘over-18s only’ policy, with ID checks at the door to protect impressionable youngsters against the adult themes of the experience.
Each journey will take a different path as you make a series of revealing choices that each offer very different consequences. However, you will all end up in an ‘interactive bar’ at the end, where things will change before your eyes, including your drinks.
The experience lasts around 90-minutes and tickets are available to book here. You’ll find SOMNAI at 2 Pear Tree Street (off Goswell Road), EC1V 3SB. Oh, and SOMNAI will only be running until 6th May, so we suggest you get in there quickly to avoid missing out…
