Captain, My Captain: You Can Now Hire Your Very Own Canal Boat

Avast! An all-new London boat hire service lets you take your very own motor boat along London’s canals.

Until now, boating through Little Venice required either joining one of those public cruises or, I guess, hiring a whole barge? But now, you can finally be the skipper of your own destiny! (Within the relatively narrow confines of going in one direction or the other.)

GoBoat, based in Paddington’s Merchant Square, lets you hire your own personal canal cruiser, seating up to eight scurvy sea-dogs. There’s even a table for a waterborne picnic.

To avoid potential boating catastrophes from first-time captains, the GoBoat cruises at a sedate speed of 4 mph, powered by a gentle electric motor.

Once underway, you can cruise up to Little Venice, and then either head west to Kensal Rise or east to Camden Town:

You can hire them from as little as an hour – or an entire day. Large groups can even hire an entire flotilla, with up to seven boats available.

Prices start from £55 and places can be booked here. Visit their website for more details.
