If you’re looking for somewhere to eat, drink and quietly escape the Oxford Street Christmas chaos, John Lewis has just the thing.
Its sixth-floor 1864 Rooftop Bar & Kitchen has launched three heated igloos for festive feasting, skyline views and rather brilliantly, letting you control the music.
Opening tonight, the cosy rooftop hideaways are made for Christmas lunches, seasonal dinners and drinks with friends, family or colleagues.
Each one comes with its own speaker, so guests can bring along a playlist and soundtrack the occasion themselves. Mariah Carey? A little jazz? A playlist consisting entirely of Wham!? The choice is yours.
Festive rooftop igloos at John Lewis Oxford Street

The heated igloos can host up to eight people seated or 10 standing, with each booking offering 2.5 hours of exclusive use.
That gives you plenty of time to settle in, admire the London views and pretend you’re not just one shop floor away from the John Lewis Christmas department.
Perched above the capital, 1864 offers a slightly calmer way to enjoy the festive season — though with a considerably better view than most Christmas catch-ups.
The igloos are intimate enough for a long-overdue friends’ lunch, but can also be booked for celebratory dinners, work gatherings and pre- or post-shopping drinks.
What’s on the festive menu?
There are two ways to dine: a Set Feasting Menu created for sharing, or the restaurant’s À La Carte Menu if you prefer to mix and match.
The Set Feasting Menu costs from £65 per person and includes a glass of Domaine Evremond Classic Cuvée. Things begin with Gordal olives with orange and rosemary, Padrón peppers with Maldon salt, Gouda and rosemary picos, and a wild mushroom cappuccino with porcini dust.
Then comes the main event: a table full of seasonal plates, including:
- Harissa king prawns with rose harissa butter, garlic confit and preserved lemon.
- Buttermilk fried chicken with lime, chilli, honey and coriander.
- Kale and samphire fritters with date and tamarind chutney.
- Pumpkin latkes with pickled red onion and cardamom soy labneh.
For the main course, diners can choose from roasted halibut with brown shrimp butter, potato fondant and tenderstem broccoli; slow-braised beef cheek with creamed mash, heritage carrots, glazed baby onion and crispy shallot; or Delica pumpkin with roasted chestnut tahini, sage butter, pumpkin seed dukkah and pomegranate molasses.
Dessert brings either Christmas sticky toffee pudding with brandy butterscotch and vanilla ice cream, or chocolate and olive oil ganache tart with black cherry and kirsch. In other words, there’s no need to book a second location for pudding.
