Holy Guacamole! This London Restaurant Has Banned Avocados

Holy guacamole! One rock-ribbed restaurant is taking a stand against London’s best-loved superfood.

Never before has a restaurant taken on such a powerful opponent in the vegetable (yes, we know it’s technically a fruit and botanically a berry) market, and lived to serve another smoked salmon and sujuk starter.

Newly-opened Aegean-inspired restaurant, Firedog is the first in London (and the UK) to say NO! to avocado.

With an avocado twitter account, 5,060,606 results for #avocado on Instagram (and counting) and the new release of the avocado emoji, avo they gone mad?

Executive Head Chef George Notley has said:

“Our mission is to reinvigorate the morning dining scene in London, which has done avocado to death, and we’re frankly bored of seeing it on every breakfast and brunch menu…

The ever-evolving cooking methods used in Aegean street food inspired us to create a colourful menu rich in interesting flavours and fresh ingredients. All without an avocado in sight!”

What’s more, this restaurant serves breakfast. Not just breakfast, brunch. Not just breakfast and brunch, but all day breakfast, brunch AND lunch. What on earth do they mash on their sourdough with a sprinkling of chilli seeds and a spattering of lime juice if not a pear-shaped tropical fruit?!

Well, it sounds pretty tasty…

Clean of green, instead you can get ‘Grilled halloumi smoked tomatoes butterbean hummus fried eggs zaatar parsley grilled flat bread’

or for lunch

‘Kofta burger poppy + sesame seed bun smoked yogurt harissa pickles Cyprus potato chips’

or a sweet

‘Lemon curd clotted cream organic honeycomb’

Might be time for some avo-cardio.

A restaurant that takes its name from the stone firedogs that were the earliest form of grilled cooking found in Santorini, they don’t just go back to 17th century Aegeans for inspiration, but to pre-avocado Britain.

Firedog, we salute you. Paving the way for new superfoods and a fresh batch of Instagram pictures.
