This 50kg gingerbread airport is just plane brilliant.
Created by food artist Michelle Wibowo and Great British Bake Off winner Candice Brown, this airport scene is sure to spread a bit of festive cheer. Altogether it took over 200 hours to make, ten people to install, and features over 1,000 gingerbread pieces. It measures an impressive 40 square metres and weighs a hefty 50kg.
Gingerbread Heathrow has been made with 20kg of flour, 30kg of sugar and 20kg of butter. And, frankly, my teeth are rotting just thinking about it. Not to worry though, because the festive scene will not be suitable for consumption. Instead, it will be recycled using anaerobic digestion, which will create electricity.
Apparently, a recent study commissioned by Heathrow Airport revealed that 25% of Brits reckon gingerbread is the most Christmassy smell. The results of the study inspired this festive creation.
The structure features four terminals, two runways, and the airport control tower. Sadly it is no longer on display, but here it is in all its glory:
