Gin and cakes, united in harmony at London’s first ever gin bakery.
Let’s get down to brass tacks: a gin bakery is quite frankly one of the best ideas we’ve heard this year. So we’re understandably pretty pumped to find out that one is coming to Portobello Road this weekend. It’ll be hosted at bakery Pearl & Groove, where fans of mother’s ruin (all of us) can pick up gin & tonic flavoured cakes, with a side of gin & tonic to wash it down.
In my reckoning, it’s London’s booziest bakery, albeit for a short time only. The gin bakery will be in residence from Friday to Sunday this weekend (21st-23rd), with cakes available for £4.25. They’re bringing in some star power for the kick-off, too, with 2017 Great British Bake Off winner Sophie Faldo on hand to launch proceedings.
Whilst the gin bakery will be a fleeting fancy, it’s worth taking a jaunt out to Pearl & Groove anyway – especially if gluten is your mortal foe. The entirely gluten-free bakery whips up cakes in flavours such as banana & peanut butter, coconut, rum & lime, and espresso martini. They’ve also got a range of sugar and dairy free cakes for you to sink your chompers into, and perhaps my favourite motto of any bakery ever: “Just have a f**king cake”. You heard them…
Location: 341 Portobello Road, W10 5SA. Nearest station is Ladbroke Grove. See it on Google Maps.
Opening hours: Pearl & Groove is open 9:30am-6pm (Mon-Fri), 10am-6pm (Sat), 11am-5pm (Sun), with the gin bakery only open September 21st-23rd.
Price: £4.25 for a small cake.
