Tower Hamlets have given the big green light to the development of a brand new lido at Shadwell Basin.
Who needs the beach when London has outdoor swimming pools, right? Swap the sand for a nice bit of grass or tarmac and hey presto, the average Londoner is on holiday.
The capital may be adding another impressive Lido to its already growing list of grand public pools. And when we say impressive, we mean it as this plan involves a heated Olympic-sized pool.
The Shadwell Basin Outdoor Activity Centre are working alongside Turk’s Head Charity to ensure this summer dream becomes a reality. They’ve already been granted permission for the heated pool, but are awaiting confirmation on the adjacent kid’s pool they also want to build.
An overview of the plans reveals a resort-like paradise complete with canoe polo court and onsite café. Those sun lounge Instagram shots are becoming a lot more attainable …
However there’s a little anger brewing amongst local residents who predict that it may bring disruption to the area. Hopefully it all works out and we could be dipping our toes in the Docklands before we know it.
