Join The Scotch Malt Whisky Society as they explore the world of food and flavour. Forget cheese and wine, this pop-up features cheese and whisky! And coffee and whisky! And foraged food and whisky! Yes that’s right, in a somewhat surprising collaboration, The Scotch Malt Whisky Society are teaming up with a food futurologist (aka the coolest job title ever), and three ‘Flavour Fanatic’ experts specialising in cheese, coffee and foraging.
If you’re a cheese fiend or any other epicure hungry to learn about flavour and develop your sensory skills, head to the ‘Flavour Fanatics Sensory Symposium’ in Shoreditch on Wednesday 10th May. Enjoy a lineup of speakers; each discussing the development of flavour (and handing out tasters)! Of course we all know that whisky and coffee is a winning combo, but whisky and cheese?! Hang on, why are we even questioning this? Everything goes with cheese.
Flavour futurologist (yep, we still have job envy), Dr Morgaine Gaye, will discuss the importance of texture, smell and consumer engagement. Head roaster at The Department of Coffee, Dumo Mathema, will share his knowledge of the coffee world, while cheesemonger extraordinaire (we’re officially in the wrong career), Ned Palmer, will talk about the world’s favourite dairy product. Also, Fergus Drennan, a wild food experimentalist and forager, will discuss and explore the different foods and flavours you can find in the wild. (Useful if you ever find yourself lost in the wild with a bottle of whisky). Once the talks are over, there’ll be a Scotch Malt Whisky Society bar where you can buy a few more drams. The speakers will also be set up at station where you chat to them a bit further and try out a few more of their wares.
The Scotch Malt Whisky Society is all about flavour. They categorise their whiskies through 12 different flavour profiles, and they are trying to get people to explore whisky a little differently. Tickets cost £20 and include five whiskies (two introductory drams and three whisky and food pairings). Bargain. Oh and did we mention there’ll be cheese?!
The pop-up event will take place between 6.30-8.30pm on Wed 10 May. You’ll find it at Protein Studios, 31 New Inn Yard, Shoreditch, EC2A 3EY. Get your tickets here.
