Since the success of Fifty Shades of Grey, the once niche, erotic market has opened itself up to a wider audience. And the mysterious Madame Noir, who hosts a selection of risqué and decadent events, certainly caters to this market. Food Noir is a dining experience like no other. Through a meticulously planned combination of food, music, live actors, atmospheric lighting and scents, the evening places sensual pleasure at its centre and encourages guests to be led by their desires.
While the dress code tells guests to wear black, many take the opportunity to dress up. After all, a full length dress or sharp suit are both fitting to Food Noir’s venue, The Gore Hotel in Kensington. Prior to the main event, the guests gather at the bar as they wait to be called to the dining room. Anticipation is in the air, for ‘Madame Noir’ does not give much away beforehand…
Once guests are shown to their tables downstairs in a dimly candlelit dining room, lavishly decorated with plush red velvet drapes, the immersive evening begins. Without giving too much away, expect a night of drama – from the way food is presented on the plate, to the ways you go about eating it (blindfolds may well be involved at points!). Every course comes with a different experience – a new ‘surprise’. The actors start you off gently, by wafting things such as aromatic incense around the room, before leading into the more explicit and sensual displays.
Should you be tempted to try a Food Noir event, go with an open mind and be ready to embrace the atmosphere of the evening. Take a friend or a lover – someone who doesn’t take themselves all too seriously. The night is not for the faint-hearted. You may well be thrown out of your comfort zone at times, but it is truly a unique experience, so expect the unexpected.
