London has launched the world’s first contactless, ‘tap-to-donate’ scheme for buskers.
Busk in London, the new initiative from the Mayor of London, allows buskers to set up a fixed price whereby passersby can simply tap their contactless cards and donate the set amount. So, now, buskers around the capital will be able to accept most cashless payments, including contactless cards, Apple Pay, chip and pin, etc.
Charlotte Campbell is a full-time busker in London, and she was one of the first to trial the scheme.
The scheme has already been trialled by a few London buskers and, so far, it appears to be a big success. It’s a great way for young artists and street performers to adapt to the cashless society we’re veering towards, and it also means that *hopefully* the amount of money they receive will increase, as “no cash” is no excuse.
Like paying for live music? (I realise that’s a weird link, but just roll with it.) Here’s a bunch of wonderful weekend festivals with cracking lineups, all less than two hours away from London.
