How To Celebrate Chinese New Year 2018 In London
The Lunar New Year might begin on Friday, Feb 16, 2018, but it’s on Sunday, Feb 18, that London will celebrate Chinese New Year in style.
Large crowds of people will be descending on the West End to mark Chinese New Year 2018, and there’ll be celebratory activities throughout the day for you to enjoy. Trafalgar Square is home to the main stage, where you can see dragon and lion dances, acrobatics, music and dance performances, surrounded by tempting Chinese food stalls. Shaftesbury Avenue will be hosting thrilling martial art performances and classical music, Leicester Square will be full of interactive family-friendly activities and children’s performances, and Charing Cross Road’s New Talent stage will feature shows from British-Chinese musical acts.
In Chinatown, the customary parade featuring over 50 groups will be wending its way through the streets, and then there’ll be lions and other animals to dance and pose with throughout the day. And of course Chinatown’s restaurants will be cooking up a storm.
Overall, it’s expected to be the largest celebration of the Lunar New Year outside of Asia, so wear something red for good luck and get along!
