Captain Marvel is the her-o we were looking for.
Once again, Earth needs a saviour. But rather than drag Iron Man out for another run-around, the Marvel team have delved into the comics and come up with the woman often described as Marvel’s mightiest avenger. Carol Danvers is a fighter pilot turned superhero, better known as Captain Marvel, who’ll be flying into cinemas next March. Today, the first trailer for Marvel’s inaugural female-led superhero film arrived, and it looks like a riot.
From crash-landing in a Blockbuster store (the film is set in the 90s, which hopefully makes for some Gen Y nostalgia) to jumping onto moving trains, Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel looks primed to kick ass and take names when the film reaches UK cinemas on March 8th, 2019. Joining her for the ride is a suspiciously young-looking Samuel L Jackson as Nick Fury, claiming he was ready to give up the “space invasion, big car chase” hoopla the franchise is famous for. Ben Mendelsohn will bring his acting chops to the villain role, and Jude Law, Lee Pace, and Annette Bening are all pencilled in for roles. The women are in charge behind the camera, too, as co-director Anna Boden becomes the first woman to helm a Marvel film.
In other film news, the Mary Poppins sequel has a charming new trailer – see it here!
