Our favourite pop-up is back and we’re practically bouncing off the walls with excitement. Continuing their tour of London, and following the success of their previous residency in Holborn, Pasta n’ Goulash will now be rocking the streets of Kentish Town, NW5. Run by ultimate dream team, mighty power couple and originators of Hungarian/Italian food fusion, Agata and Tamás, this is one pop-up you seriously won’t want to miss.
Their new menu boasts the likes of slow-cooked stews and hand-stuffed pasta, some of which are served in or on edible “crockery” (yes, really). There’ll be plenty of Chicken Paprikash (a creamy chicken stew) and their traditional Hungarian Goulash served in a crusty bread bowl (you’ll see us on their menu raving about this dish, and our opinion is pretty darn trustworthy if you ask us).
If you fancy a bit of Italian (ooh-er), the menu also stars 6 different types of filled pasta, both gnocchi and ravioli, each served fresh in a nest of parmesan. We repeat, a nest of parmesan. The fillings include ricotta, mushroom, pumpkin, honey and pecorino cheese and tomato and basil, some of which will rotate each week. And, to add even more deliciousness into the mix, they’ll be fusing the two cuisines for the first time and serving up a delicious veggie stew stuffed into a huge beefy tomato and a Hungarian pepper.
Start your meal with a Hungaro-Italian charcuterie platter and finish off with some traditional and inventive desserts from both countries. (Errr, hello Gnocchi filled with Nutella and milk chocolate)! To wash down all the food, there’ll also be an excellent selection of traditional wine, spirits and bubbles, as well as carefully selected craft beers and prosecco cocktails to match the food.
Rumour has it they’re searching for a permanent London location and, for the sake of our stomachs, we jolly well hope it happens soon. For now you’ll find them on alternative weekends (25-26 March, 8-9 and 22-23 April, 6-7 May) at the Tolli Cafe, just opposite Kentish Town station. So book yourself a table, jump on the Northern line, and prepare for a fabulously full belly… because it’s safe to say you won’t be leaving Hungary. (Sorry, that joke was just asking to be made).
