Fancy yourself a bit of an activist? This wild new experience puts you in the shoes of Pussy Riot.
The Saatchi Gallery’s upcoming art exhibition, Art Riot: Post-Soviet Actionism, focuses on protest art and political activisim in Russia’s post-Communist phase, with posters, photography and performances from artists agitating for individual freedom in the face of political ideology and conservative religious views.
But perhaps the most eye-catching part is Inside Pussy Riot, an immersive, interactive show that puts you in the shoes of feminist punk rock group, infamously imprisoned for a protest in a Moscow cathedral in 2012.
In a teaser, the artists say:
‘Here’s the story of a group of modern day, post-punk feminist badass revolutionaries who stuck two fingers up at the system and suffered the consequences.
Marking the 100th anniversary of the Russian Revolution, pull on the balaclava and stand up for what you believe in. Rock the establishment, stand in the dock as Pussy Riot and live the realities of imprisonment for the freedom of speech we take for granted. Would you sacrifice everything for the sake of a punk prayer for a liberal world?’
Kickstarted by Pussy Riot founder Nadya Tolokonnikova, the 60-minute experience has been produced by Les Enfants Terribles, who most recently wowed London with their wild, subterranean show Alice’s Adventures Underground:
This new show might take you into the heart of a Pussy Riot protest, see you face trial, or even do some hard time for standing up for your views. Nadya promises the show will ‘take you on a journey from the cathedral altar deep into the vaults of the Kremlin itself.’
And with claustrophobes and people afraid of the dark warned to give it a miss, it’s set to be a thrilling experience.
