Die 137 Jahre alte Hammersmith Bridge wird sechs Wochen lang einmal pro Wochenende für 24 Stunden gesperrt. Ab dem 25. Oktober wird die Brücke bis zum 29. November jeden Freitag für 24 Stunden gesperrt, was bedeutet, dass Fußgänger und Radfahrer die Brücke nicht passieren können.
Die Sperrungen sind erforderlich, um die gusseiserne Brücke anzuheben und korrodierte Teile zu ersetzen und durch Gummilager zu ersetzen. Sobald diese Arbeiten an der unter Denkmalschutz stehenden Brücke (Grade II*) abgeschlossen sind, wird sie weiter saniert, damit die gesamte Spannweite für Radfahrer, Fußgänger und Rollerfahrer freigegeben werden kann.
Die Brücke wurde im Jahr 2020 vollständig geschlossen und ist seitdem für Fahrzeuge nicht mehr befahrbar. Im Jahr 2021 wurde sie für Fußgänger und Radfahrer wieder geöffnet, und die neuen Arbeiten werden zu einem neuen Erlebnis für Fußgänger und Spaziergänger führen, die derzeit beim Überqueren der Brücke ein wenig in die Enge getrieben werden, da die Arbeiten den größten Teil des Platzes einnehmen.
Wenn Sie also an einem frischen Samstagmorgen im Herbst am Fluss spazieren gehen und schnell auf die andere Seite wechseln möchten, müssen Sie eine alternative Route weiter unten auf dem Weg nehmen.

- Freitag, 29. November, 21 Uhr, bis Samstag, 30. November, 21 Uhr.
Der Flussverkehr wird durch die Sperrung der Hammersmith Bridge an diesen Tagen nicht beeinträchtigt.
