It’s no secret that we Londoners love a good pub.

They’re – very conveniently – basically everywhere, and they all have their own unique charms, so it can sometimes be quite tricky trying to locate the perfect watering hole. That’s why we thought we’d give all you lovely south Londoners a little helping hand with our comprehensive pub-themed area guide. Psst! New Cross House in er, New Cross, is a haven for foodies and beer lovers alike. We recommend pairing your pint of Hop House 13 with their delicious swordfish tacos with pico de gallo salsa for a guaranteed good time. They also offer a selection of hand-stretched, freshly made Italian-style pizzas. A taste of Southern Italy in south London!

2. Victoria Inn (Peckham)

Peckham? He who dares Rodney, he who dares! Didn’t you know that Peckham is London’s most up-and-coming area? It’s finally cool to hang out in this vibrant south London locale, and we recommend the Victoria Inn for a little extra street-cred. The pub’s been standing since 1878 and it’s certainly stood the test of time. Its seasonal British pub menu is served all day long, and it boasts ten draught lines of world-class beers and ciders, plus five hand-pulled cask ales.

3. The Florence (Herne Hill)

After a brisk autumn walk around nearby Brockwell Park, there’s no better place to head than The Florence. This beautiful little establishment offers some truly spectacular modern pub food using only seasonal produce, as well as a rotating range of ales. They also brew their own beer in the on-site microbrewery, so you’re guaranteed to find something unique. You could even top off your day with a dip in Brockwell Lido – but let that food go down first!

4. The Wandle (Earlsfield)

On the banks of the beautiful River Wandle sits an equally pretty alehouse. The Wandle is a comfy retreat from London life, serving everything from fantastic flatbreads to bountiful burgers, either of which would pair perfectly with a pint of Hop House 13. Meanwhile, the beer garden hosts a winter barbecue and heated private booths, so whilst summer on the river is divine, winter at the pub is something special too.

5. The Hare & Billet (Blackheath)

There’s simply no other word for it: The Hare & Billet is COSY. The decor is classic pub with a touch of old-school England, making it the perfect spot to relax with a pint this autumn. And boy, do they have a selection for you! There’s a great choice of beers from London’s smaller breweries, as well as the ever-popular Hop House 13. With Blackheath right on the doorstep, you can sip on your pint whilst watching the autumn sunlight transform the heath. Beautiful.

6. Tulse Hill Hotel (Tulse Hill)

Ok, so this one’s not technically just a pub, but bear with us – it’s definitely worth a mention. There are so many things to love about Tulse Hill Hotel, but perhaps the most important one is the – wait for it – bottomless Saturday brunch! Aside from their Saturday special, this establishment also features nine boutique bedrooms, so you can escape central London for quick staycation should the mood take you. Looks like the rest of the city needs to up its game…

150 Norwood Rd, Lambeth, SE24 9AY
