These bars do partequilaly good margaritas (might have tried too hard with that one, sorry).
1. Tonterĩa
Two words: tequila train. People visit Tonterĩa for its theatrical entertainment, its famous sharing cocktails and the renowned Tequila Express. The Express is quite literally a toy train that will chuff along and deliver your drinks to your table. And if that’s not enough of a reason to visit, I don’t know what is. You can also buy tequila by the bottle, but a lot of it is very rare and verrrry expensive — some reach £1,500 a pop (excuse us while we stick to our shots).
7-12 Sloane Square, SW1W 8EG
2. Café Pacifico
This little cocktail spot wriggled its way into the list of the World’s Best Bars this year, and rightly so! After you’ve tasted one of their alcoholic masterpieces, you’ll be coming back for more and raving about it for years. With a big ol’ list of tequila cocktails, they use some pretty creative ingredients, including everything from vanilla to homemade spiced gomme! You’ll even find tequila lobster en el menú…
5 Langley St, Covent Garden, WC2H 9JA
The Pink Chihuahua
Hidden beneath top-notch burrito spot, El Camion, you’ll find The Pink Chihuahua. This rather bizarrely named cocktail bar used to be run by the guy who created the Bramble and the Espresso Martini — so it’s safe to say that this bar means serious business. They have a hefty list of tequila based cocktails, ranging from the classic margarita to the Bloody Maria (that’s a Mary with tequila instead of vodka, of course). The only catch is that you have to be a member in order to enter, but it’s free to sign up so it’s not really a catch at all (plus, it’ll make you sound wicked cool and exclusive).
25-27 Brewer St, W1F 0RR
Crazy Homies
Crazy Homies boasts a mammoth list of margaritas and other tequila cocktails, ie. a Tequila Sour, a Bramble, and Mick Jagger’s favourite drink, a Tequila Sunrise. We suggest you schedule in some food time too, as there’s a helluva lot of tasty Mexican munch on the menu.
125 Westbourne Park Rd, W2 5QL
El Patron
El Patron’s cocktails are like no other. Sip on a jalapeño and blood orange margarita with a candied jalapeño, or a beetroot mojito named after Frida Kahlo. No, we’re not kidding. Minty beetroot, mmmm. Match your tequila tipples with a taco or two and you might just fall in love with this place.
