With the GBBO final tonight, we bid fair well to our flantastic, frosting-filled Wednesday evenings. This series we’ve been moved to tiers and quite simply doughnut know how we’ll live without it. We don’t have enough sponge fingers to count the reasons why we love the Bake Off, however, in appreciation, we thought we’d share some of our favourite moments of this year’s competition.
1. The many facial expression of Nadiya
2. … and the fan art that followed
3. Of course, GBBO would be nothing without the endless innuendos. From soggy bottoms to moist cracks and cream horns in need of a good old stiffening – we’ve had the lot this series…
4. And Sue was up to her usual naughty antics…
5. There have been disasters (albeit delicious ones)
6. But, thankfully, lessons have been learned since 2014 and the bakers stayed well away from the bin…
7. GBBO expanded their social demographic this year by introducing the token hipster (complete with hat and love of beetroot)
8. And then there’s Ian, who was adamant to show us the benefits of ‘home grown’ baking…
9. Innocent sum up our feelings towards him pretty perfectly…
10. Generally, we just loved that @Innocent’s live commentary was back in full force
11. In other social media news, a Literary Cake Pun war trended…
12. And the punning continued… This Bake-Off tube map kept us hungry on our morning commute (if only…)
13. Alvin… and the time he attempted to open his own bakery. GBBO meets The Apprentice?
14. There was an exotic variety of animals baked in the tent this year (Paul’s Lion, Nadia’s Peacock … Flora’s horse/dog/dorse/hog)
15. Last, but certainly not least, our fabulous Flour Power Queen, Ms Mary Berry, whose blazer collection and ability to stay slim will never cease to amaze us!
So tonight, we’ll sit our soggy bottoms on the sofa to behold the showstopper of shows and wait eagerly for the ultimate start baker to rise.
And to avoid staring longingly at the cake on the screen tonight, why not grab something from our favourite London dessert spots, from naughty brownies to salted caramel treats, there will be something to tickle your (French) fancy.
