London loves coffee and what’s more, we love drinking it in spaces as unusual as we can find. It makes for a more interesting Instagram feed, right? Here are some of the capital’s finest bean roasters that are sure to have you blinking twice at the surroundings.

1. Attendant, Fitzrovia

You wouldn’t think drinking coffee in an old Victorian toilet would be so fancy but this sure is. Located just 5 minutes away from the ever busy Oxford Street, this old toilet has been transformed into a lovely little brunch and coffee spot complete with decorative urinals and Victorian tiles. Definitely one for the ‘gram.

2. Ziferblat, Old Street

The name of the game at this place is that you buy your time here, rather than your coffee. This is a concept not usually seen here in the capital but is surely one to take off pretty soon. Rates are 5p per minute and the space encourages people to work alongside other creatives, make friends and enjoy everything inside of it for free.

3. Draughts, Hackney

London’s first board game café is here, people. Just when you thought east London couldn’t do anything more quintessentially hipster, they’ve gone and outdone themselves. Located in an old railway arch, that’s located in the heart of Hackney and has over 600 games to choose from – this is one café that may just get a little competitive.

4. Kape Barako Ltd, Hampstead

Okay so this one technically isn’t large enough to be classified as a ‘shop’ but it’s certainly quirky. This independent coffee kiosk is in an unused BT telephone box and we must say, this is rather impressive. Customers can purchase all the usual suspects such as pastries, coffee, milkshakes and even sweets from this definition of a ‘hidden gem’.

5. Sew Over It, Clapham and Islington

This place is sew cool. Okay, allow us one cheesy pun but this place offers sewing classes to all abilities and unlimited coffee and tea. Go for a class, to buy the latest fabrics or to pick up a pattern to learn how to make that ultimate pencil skirt you’ve been meaning to cobble together.

78 Landor Road, near Clapham North station, SW9 9PH or 36A Myddelton Street, near Angel station, EC1R 1UA.

6. The Wren, Queen Victoria Street

Sip on your cappuccino in the presence of some divine spirits (or some very pretty stained glass windows) at this church-come-coffee-shop. It’s nestled inside St Nicholas Cole Abbey, which serves coffee Monday-Friday from 7am-5pm and has a midweek church service. It’s all a little random but we love it all the same.

114 Queen Victoria Street, near Mansion House station, EC4V 4BJ.

7. Fuckoffee, Bermondsey Street

This indie coffee shop comes complete with quirky decor, mismatched tables and offers everything from banana coffee frappes to fresh strawberry and kiwi juices. Quirky is definitely the word to be used here and there are enough wall hangings and neon lights to grab that new #coffeeshopgoals shot.

163 – 167 Bermondsey Street, near London Bridge station, SE1 3UW.

8. Look Mum No Hands!, Old Street

What may look like a super cute café is actually also a bar and bicycle workshop – how interesting. It’s all about keeping the cycling population of London booming alongside great craft beers, roasted coffee and some great lunch deals. Oh and furry friends are welcome too!

49 Old Street, near Old Street station, EC1V 9HX.
