We all thought that the Warburton/Muppet merger in the release of the much-acclaimed Giant Crumpet was all the crumpet excitement we would ever get… We were wrong.
London just went a step further with Knead Bakery in Stoke Newington now offering up the most decadent of breakfasts, the most tempting of snacks, the most delectable of drunk foods… the Chocolate Crumpet.
We thought that the Chocolate Sourdough Loaf from Waitrose would satisfy us, but no. This 70% chocolate treat that turns gooey when toasted is sure to become the latest of London’s food trends… It may even rise to the heights of the infamous Freakshake and the Rainbow Doughnut. Yeah, we went there.
Knead Bakery recommend slathering the toasted temptress in Maple Butter or Raspberry Butter (yes, that’s a thing), but we can recommend their Salted Caramel Peanut Butter for ultimate thickness, or Nutella to add a bit of light relief to the dark tones of the 70% crumpety cake. Originating in England as hard pancakes cooked on a griddle, this means crumpets definitely count as one of your five (pancakes) a day on Pancake Day on 28th Feb. Knead’s crumpet flavours also include Chocolate and Orange, special edition Red Velvet, Cinnamon, Cinnamon and Raisin, Lemon and Poppy Seed, Wholemeal, Banana, Classic and Classic with a Hint of Lemon… Holy Crumpet, we may have just found the Great British Crumpet Connoisseurs.
Can be found either in Selfridges or on Broadway Market at Knead’s stall.
