Take a stroll along Upper Street and you’ll see a number of places that will make you go “Oh my God, I need to go there”. That’s what we did, so we wrote this article.

1. The Vineyard

A retro hotspot for tapas lovers, pizza lovers, burger lovers, burrito lovers, taco lovers, gin lovers, cocktail lovers, beer lovers, smoothie lovers, wine lovers. Even Scrabble lovers. So basically anyone. Get down there.

2. Galley

If you’re a fan of meat, fish or gin, Galley is right up your alley. Start your evening with Oysters (try the crispy tempura oyster with chilli jam or the pickled oyster with jalapeño and cucumber) and a frozen grape G&T, before taking your pick of delectable starters. Galley have recently launched a brand new à la carte menu, and we recommend the octopus and chorizo a la plancha (seriously, this is unbelievable) and the mussels with lemongrass, chilli and ginger. For the main event, there’s almost too much to choose from. We went for the roasted guinea fowl with mushroom purée and the Cornish hake with pancetta crumb, potato and leek terrine, mussels, and a cider sauce. You will not be disappointed.

3. King’s Head Theatre/Pub

A Victorian pub known for its fantastic theatre, the King’s Head puts on some darn good shows. From raunchy shows about sex and porn, to hilarious improv shows and musicals (and improv musicals), there’s something for everyone in this wonderful indie theatre. (Including beer. Lots and lots of beer. It is a pub, after all).

4. The Library

One of Islington’s most loved late night venues, The Library is not the quiet sanctuary you might expect. There’s Thai food, seasonal cocktails, jazz and blues nights, comedy nights, film screenings, and art exhibitions. We don’t imagine you’ll be spending a lot of time reading many books…

5. Chinese Laundry

This family run restaurant is all about authentic Chinese cuisine; everything is made to be shared and enjoyed together, with a focus on ‘flavours and emotion’. The restaurant itself is beautiful, with classic Chinese ceramic plates and kitsch interior. It’s definitely one to try!

Catch a concert at the stunning Union Chapel. They’re not short of fantastic acts, including Richard Hawley, Paul Weller, Doc Brown, Michael Kiwanuka, Natalie Imbruglia, etc etc etc.

Isarn has an extensive list of amazing seafood, meats, curries and stir-fries, all made with exciting ingredients and flavours.

8. Everyman Screen on the Green

One of the country’s oldest cinemas, Screen on the Green only has a single screen. There’s a bar at the back and cinema-goers have the option to choose sofas and footrests, for the ultimate ‘lazy-night-in-but-actually-out’ experience.
